Thailand for Thai Massage course II
I had accidentally left my phone behind at a hotel in Cambodia when I was on the tour of South East Asia. I decided that the best thing to do was go back and get it when the tour finished. I checked my luggage with the rest when we left Laos, but instead of flying home from Bangkok, I flew to Cambodia.
I was so sick of lugging my huge suitcase around that I abandoned it to the will of the airlines.I got it back a couple of months later, to everyone’s disbelief. Air Asia are the best, they found it and flew it all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Newcastle for me.
I carried on for the next couple of weeks with carry-on luggage, buying anything I needed.
Buna, my wonderful driver in Siem Reap looked after me for the next couple of days in Cambodia. I visited his home to see his sweet family.

The next day, I caught a comfortable bus from Siem Reap to Bangkok. It had reclining seats and a foot rest. I sat up the back in the middle. It took all day but I was so sick of flying and waiting at airports. I had flown from Vientiane to Bangkok, Bangkok to Singapore, Singapore to Kuala Lumpur to Siem Reap, all within a few days.
The worst bit of the bus trip was crossing the boarder between Cambodia and Thailand. They have to unload all the luggage, take it across the boarder on a trolley and load it back on the bus. This happens while the passengers are corralled in a room with no fan, to have their passports stamped. The staff had gone for lunch and the number of people crammed in the room continued to rise. I was so glad I had a hand fan and a nice girl to chat with while we waited interminably. Eventually we were all back on the bus, but we couldn’t leave. A girl was missing! No one knew what had happened to her, we were imagining all sorts of things, that she had gotten lost or abducted or kidnapped by white slave traders. It turned out that she had problems with her visa and they wouldn’t let her across the boarder.

A travel agency booked me a train for the next day. I was going to Chiang Mai to do the Thai Yoga Massage course over again. It was a good opportunity to improve my skills. I stayed in a horrible little room in Bangcock and went out for a walk. I found a street market close by. I came to the conclusion that Bangkok is a very strange place.
The train trip took all the following day, arriving after dark. I bought something to eat from a lady selling food to the passengers and ate the small meal they provided us on the train. It was torture to me: an incredibly hot tin of chili tuna, but I was starving.
I travelled 4 075km and went to 7 places in 5 days.
I hadn’t booked anywhere to stay in Chiang Mai but I got a red bus to take me to my favorite home away from home, The Santitam Guest House. They had a perfect room for me. I stayed for two weeks with Mit and Nat while I did the massage course.
Not far away from my hotel I found the most peaceful, well cared for, charming temple in Chaing Mai. The first time I went there, they were starting chanting and I decided to join in. Afterwards one of the monks, who could speak English spent some time talking with me.
I spoke with him several more times during my stay in Chiang Mai. He told me things that helped me so much. And I told him things which he thought were amazing. And that brings me to my next trip to Vietnam and Thailand in 2019.
