​Benefits:
Physical:
  • stretches the chest, opens the heart and lungs.
  • Strengthens the back and works the shoulders
Emotional:
  • builds confidence and
  • makes you feel light and happy and light

Contradictions:
  • frozen shoulder, shoulder injuries
 
Method:
  1. Sit comfortably in virasana or sukhasana or on a bolster
  2. let the finger tips touch the floor, bend the elbows and turn the palm upwards
  3. inhaling pull the shoulder blades back towards each other
  4. exhale relax
  5. repeat X3 opening the chest pulling the elbows and shoulder blades back
 Variations:
  • A: inhaling sweep the arms up to prayer pose above the head
  • exhale open the arms down to the floor
  • Repeat x3

  • B: Hold the arms in prayer above the head
  • apply root, navel and neck locks, - pull up the pelvic floor, pull in the lower abdominal muscles, chin slightly down and gaze to the 3rd eye, the point between the eye brows
(mula Bundah, Uddiyana Bundaha & Jalandahara bundha gaze to ajna chakra)    
Drawing the energy up from the ground through the air channels, the nadis, the energy travels up through the chakras and through the crown of the head. Feel  peace and tranquility in the mind.
  • C: Clasp the fingers above the head turning the palms outwards
  • Stretch right up
  • Change the clasp of the fingers
  • Let the arms float down
 
Benefits: challenges the brain
Contradictions: quite a strenuous pose. shoulder injuries
