Do you know yoga is an ancient form of therapy?

There are many yoga postures that heal specific pain areas, caused by body misalignments and damaged or tight muscles.

My name is Sarah Hope and I have been a yoga practitioner for more than 25 years. I am also a qualified massage therapist with the intention to use my skills to heal and bring peace to mind and body.

You may be surprised to know that the root cause of chronic pain is often painful, suppressed emotions.
Yoga and/or massage can help release the pain in both body and mind. For example, by stretching tight hamstrings, your lower back pain will ease;
a sore neck may literally be caused by someone being a ‘pain in the neck’  massage and neck exercises, will bring you relief from headaches.
Yoga makes you strong, confident and cures many ailments.

I deliver women’s self-defence and fitness, therapeutic massage for relaxation and healing, and yoga, in the peaceful setting of my art gallery.
I can combine both yoga and massage if you wish; through massage the muscles become warm and relaxed and able to gently move into the postures that will bring further relief from pain.

In the healing environment of the studio, all therapies and classes are carried out under a professional code of conduct. Clients are therefore expected to reciprocate the appropriate and respectful nature of this conduct.

I hope to see you in my studio for your health and healing.

Namaste
Sarah

Thai Yoga Massage

Traditional Thai yoga massage can look back at a long history of therapeutic healing.

The father founder of Thai Yoga Massage, Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha was a renowned doctor and yogi. He treated the Buddha, and was personal physician to the Magadha King Bimbisara over 2,500 years ago, in India. Monks and Ayruvedic doctors travelled to Southeast Asia in the 3rd Century B.C. bringing Buddhism and a healing art that evolved into Thai yoga massage

In this unique healing system of Thai Yoga Massage, the practitioner guides the client through a series of yoga postures, while palming and thumbing along the body’s main energy (‘Sen’) lines and pressure points. Together these actions result in a comprehensive full body treatment that relieves muscular tension, improves circulation, boosts the immune system and balances the body energetically. There is a lot of stretching involved and many exercises might well be described as 'applied Hatha Yoga'.
Thai Yoga Massage is performed on a mat on the floor; both client and practitioner are dressed in comfortable clothing allowing ease of movement and flexibility.
Massage was always considered to be a spiritual practice closely connected with the teachings of the Buddha. Until fairly recently it was the Buddhist temple, where massage was taught and practiced. The establishment of legitimate massage facilities outside of the temples is a recent development. I carry on the tradition by practicing in the peaceful atmosphere of my yoga and meditation space.

Increasingly, people seem to realize that for certain ailments like asthma, constipation or frozen shoulders and to help recovery after a heart attack or to regain mobility of the limbs after a stroke – to mention only a few – Thai massage treatment is far superior to conventional medicine and therapy.

The limits of Western style medicine became apparent in the late 80's, bringing about a revival of interest in alternative health care in the West . Westerners in search of traditional treatments discovered Thai massage. Doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and masseurs on one hand, and people with a background in yoga, yoga therapy and meditation on the other hand, came to Thailand to supplement their knowledge with a training in traditional Thai massage.

Therapeutic Massage

Massage therapy is the scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of normalizing those tissues and consists of manual techniques that include applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, and/or causing movement of or to the body.

Generally, massage is known to affect the circulation of blood and the flow of blood and lymph, reduce muscular tension, affect the nervous system through stimulation or sedation, and enhance tissue healing. These effects provide a number of benefits:
